Orlando, FL : 59-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Friday night October 3rd 2014
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a 59-year-old man who was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Friday night was intentionally run over, and they're treating the case as a homicide.
FHP troopers said Paul Money Jr. and a woman were crossing South Bumby Avenue after leaving a 7-Eleven when both were struck.
Authorities now want to talk to the woman Money was with when he was struck. They said she is not a person of interest, but she is the only witness in the case.
She hasn’t been seen since Saturday.
"Right now, we are still trying to locate the second victim , the female, to ask her additional questions, to clarify any tips we have got and things we did not think to ask her when we thought it was a hit-and-run," said Sgt. Kim Montes, with FHP.
Troopers said new surveillance video from a nearby 7-Eleven recorded Money and a woman leaving the store, as well as the suspected vehicle involved sitting in the parking lot.
That same vehicle was also recorded at a nearby business following Money and his companion.
According to investigators, the vehicle pulled into a parking lot, and then quickly pulled out again. They said the driver appeared to wait, then inched forward and then accelerated out of the parking lot.
"We do believe the front of the vehicle struck him and ran him over. Initially, the other pedestrian said it was a Jeep, but we now know it was a Ford Explorer," said Montes.
Money's father, Paul Money Sr., said he and his wife got a knock on the door late that night and were told that their son was the victim of an apparent hit-and-run. They were shown video from the incident as well.
"My thought was, did he do it on purpose of was it accidental?" Paul Money Sr. said. "He should have had a long life ahead of him, but it was snuffed out in just a moment. We will never get over it, but we will get through it."
Investigators said the woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
