Duplin County, NC : Two people injured after a rear-end crash on I-40 near Rose Hill on Sunday, September 25, 2016

Two people were airlifted after a rear-end crash in Duplin County.

The crash happened on I-40 at the 382 mile marker near Rose Hill around 8 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Trooper Benton with Highway Patrol, Paisley Cookson, from Wilmington, rear-ended Jamie Smith, of Willard.

The cars went left off the road and onto the median.

Both Cookson and Smith were pinned in their cars had to be removed by emergency crews.

They were airlifted to a hospital in Greenville with life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for nearly two hours. The crash is still being investigated.
