Red Wing,MN : Victims in Saturday night colllison were both Red Wing residents on April, Saturday 28th 2018
A 30-year-old woman and 22-year-old man both from Red Wing, Minn. were identified Sunday as those who died in a head-on crash and subsequent fire that occurred late Saturday night on Highway 63 near the Pierce-St. Croix county line.
Traci Lee Nannette Hardy, 30, and Scott Mikael Kull, 22, the passenger and driver in separate vehicles, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:53 p.m. crash, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Hardy was a passenger in a 2003 Ford F-150 driven by Trent B. Wentlandt, 25, of Bay City, that collided with a 2003 Lincoln Aviator being driven by Kull.
A Pierce County Sheriff's Department news release said both vehicles were on fire when the first officer arrived on the scene.
The crash occurred when Kull, northbound on Highway 63, was attempting to turn off onto CTH Y at a location known to many as "Wiff Corner" and struck the southbound pickup head-on.
Highway 63 bends there on a hill above the Rush River. To reach County Y, northbound vehicles must cross Highway 63's southbound lane.
Wentlandt had to be extricated by firefighters and was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing by the Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service with unknown injuries.
Highway 63 was closed for nearly five hours as officials investigated the crash and cleared the wreckage.
Agencies responding included the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, Ellsworth and Elmwood fire departments, Ellsworth Area Ambulance and the State Patrol.
The crash remains under investigation.
