Spanish Fork, UT : Baby survives crash that killed mom in Utah on Sunday, March 8, 2015

An 18-month-old baby was found alive in an overturned car after a crash that killed her mother.

A fisherman in Spanish Fork, Utah called 911 after he found the Dodge Caliber overturned and partially submerged in a river. Inside, first responders found the 18-month-old still strapped in her car seat. Her 25-year-old mother was dead.

Police said the two of them had visited the woman's parents a few miles away when she veered off the road and into the river. A resident told police that they heard a loud noise that night, but was unable to see anything. The car was discovered the next afternoon.

Police Lt. Cory Slaymaker said the baby was taken to Primary Chidren's Hospital in Salt Lake City in critical condition. Police believe she may have been trapped in the car for as long as 14 hours.
