Belmont, N.H : Motorcyclist injured after serious crash in Belmont early Wednesday morning, August 17, 2016

A Tilton man was critically injured early Wednesday morning in a motorcycle crash in Belmont.

Officers responded just after 5 a.m. to Dutile Road and found an unconscious 44-year-old man in the road with serious head injuries, police said.

The victim was treated at the scene and flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital via helicopter. Police said he was not wearing a helmet, and his head struck the pavement.

Alcohol and excessive speed have been ruled out as possible factors in the crash, police said. They believe an animal may have been in road when he crashed.

Police did not release the victim's name. The crash is under investigation.
