San Jacinto River, CCA : 18-wheeler driver who crashed into river off I-10 from S.A. on Friday, 28th June 2019
A man's body was retrieved Friday afternoon from the sleeper cab of a semi-truck that crashed into the San Jacinto River in east Harris County the day before. Now, the challenge remains using a barge to remove the 18-wheeler from the water.
"We are relieved that we'll be able to bring closure to a family and they can have a proper burial," Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Friday.
Family members identified the driver as 60-year-old Steve Martinez of San Antonio, according to several news stations.
The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. Thursday when a Chevrolet Cavalier collided with a different semi-truck around where westbound Interstate 10 crosses the river. The car had been spun around to face traffic and did not have any lights on, authorities said.
