Davenport, IA : One person is dead after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Wednesday, August 30, 2017

One person is dead after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Wednesday north of Mount Carroll, Illinois, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department said.

The crash occurred at 5:57 a.m. on Illinois 78 south of Elizabeth road.

According to a news release, sheriff’s deputies came upon a crash involving a motorcycle that was northbound on Illinois 78.

The motorcycle left the roadway and struck a drainage culvert. The impact ejected the driver from the motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver, John Sobol, 65, of Mt. Carroll, was taken to FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Sobol was then transported to Mercy Health in Rockford, Illinois, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
