Benld, IL : Three hospitalized in crash on Route 4 between Benld and Gillespie on Tuesday, January 3, 2017
Illinois State Police District 18 are investigating a single vehicle crash on Illinois Route 4 just north of Division Street between Benld and Gillespie.
According to a release from ISP District 18 Trooper Heath Bryan, a Kia passenger car was traveling northbound on Route 4 at approximately 2:36 p.m. Tuesday when it left the roadway to the right. The vehicle struck the culvert and became airborne, coming to rest on its top in the middle of the highway.
The driver, Nicole Ridenhour, 32, of Gillespie and the 8- and 4-year-old passengers were transported to Staunton Hospital by Gillespie-Benld Ambulance. Illinois Route 4 was shut down for approximately 30 minutes while the vehicle was removed from the roadway.
Other agencies on scene were Gillespie Fire and Rescue, Gillespie Police Department and Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office. The crash is still under investigation, and no charges have been issued at this time.
