New Albany ,MS : One Person Killed after tree falls on car and hits two cars on Sunday afternoon, May 24th 2015

One person is dead in New Albany after a tree fell on a vehicle during Sunday afternoon's storms.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said a tree fell on Highway 30 east near Stokes Grocery Store due to a storm and hit two cars as they were passing.

The incident happened sometime after 6 p.m. Sunday.

According to investigators, the tree directly impacted one of the vehicle's passenger side and struck a female passenger.

She died on the scene, according to Robertson.

Several other passengers in the vehicles had substantial injuries, but it's unclear at this time how many are hurt.

"In the 18 years I've been in law enforcement, I can't recall this ever happening," Robertson said. "It's a sad and unfortunate situation."

No other details are being released at this time. It remains under investigation.
