Ogden, N.Y : 27 year old woman dead near the intersection of Stony Point road and South Union Street on Sunday, August 3, 2014
A 27 year old woman is now dead after her car somehow collided with dump truck full of gravel. Another car was also involved in the collision as well. Ogden Police say the 27 year old is Teresa Devlin of Chicago. The crash happened near the intersection of Stony Point road and South Union Street. According to investigators, Devlin and a child passenger were traveling east on Stony Point road close to the intersection, when suddenly they collided with a Town of Ogden dump truck. The dump truck flipped over and crushed much of the car trapping both Devlin and the child, while another car somehow crashed around the same area. First responders spent almost an hour freeing them, but Devlin was later pronounced dead. Police and neighbors in the area say there have been other crashes near the intersection in the past, some of them fatal. “I’ve called 911 many times and seen several accidents,” said Joyce Seaman, who heard the crash from inside her home. “I’d like to see it turned into a 4-way stop.” She added. The intersection is currently a 2 way stop with stop signs on Stony Point road. In 2009, the New York State Department of Transportation decided to add larger stop signs to the area to try and address concerns. “Stop Ahead” signs were also added. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Ogden Police Chief Douglas Nordquist tells he’s not ruling out looking at previous accidents in the area to see if more changes need to be made with the intersection. The child had serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, 3 people in the other car were also taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the dump truck was treated on scene, and is expected to be okay.
