CASCO, ME : Maine police make arrest in fatal hit-and-run of pedestrian on Sunday, December 18th 2016
Police have charged a Maine man in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in the town of Casco.
The Cumberland County sheriff’s department said part of the car’s grill left at the scene and a tip led to the arrest of 28-year-old Jeffrey Eugene Smith, of Sebago. He’s charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Deputies say 56-year-old Lorna Nugent, of Casco, was struck Sunday evening in Casco near the Naples town line.
Officials say the release of the type of vehicle involved in the crash led to a tip that pointed to Smith, who was arrested Monday. He remained Tuesday in the Cumberland County Jail on a probation violation.
It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
