Roanoke, VA : Lanes reopened on U.S. 460 in Montvale following fuel tanker wreck on May, Wednesday, 24th 2017

A tractor-trailer carrying fuel that overturned on U.S. 460 in Montvale shut down lanes for several hours Wednesday.

The wreck, which happened near Beale Trail Road, closed all westbound lanes from about 1 to 8:30 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Virginia State Police Sgt. Rick Garletts said the capsized tanker appeared to be leaking, and a VDOT crew helped with clean-up.

Bedford Fire Marshal Jeff Pauley said the driver was not injured.

Pauley said the driver appeared to be turning from a side road onto U.S. 460 when the wreck happened. It’s unclear what caused the tanker to overturn.

Pauley said he noticed a small amount of fuel leaking that appeared to be from a saddle tank, but he said the main tank appeared intact. The tanker was carrying a full load, he said. The exact number of gallons the tanker was carrying was not immediately available.
