Pittsburgh, PA : Cohoes woman injured in Latham crash on Saturday, December, 16th 2017
A Cohoes woman is in hospital after driving into the path of a tractor trailer early Saturday, Colonie Police said.
At 3:48 a.m. the woman, 26, drove her 2002 Mazda onto Route 9 from Lawrence Avenue in Latham directly into the path of a 2018 Freightliner tandem tractor trailer, owned by ABF Freight, which was traveling south on Route 9, police said. The tractor trailer had a green light and was traveling legally on Route 9 at the time of the crash, police said.
The woman driving the Mazda was transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries to the head, hips and legs, police said. Her name is being withheld pending further next of kin notification. The truck driver, of York, Pennsylvania, was not injured and is not facing charges at this time, police said.
A section of Route 9 from Dunsbach Ferry Road to Boght Road was closed in all directions for about 6 hours as a result of the crash, but has since been re-opened, police said. The crash is currently under investigation by members of the Colonie Police Traffic Safety Unit, and future charges are possible.
