Detroit, MI : Police chase ended with a deadly crash on Thursday morning August 7th 2014
Michigan State Police say a police chase ended with a deadly crash Thursday morning.
Police say they attempted to stop both vehicles when they saw a red 2000 Jeep Cherokee and a Silver Chevy Impala driving up and down side streets in the area of 9 Mile and John R.
Officers say the Jeep took off down 9 Mile to the south Chrysler service drive at speeds reaching 70 miles an hour. It then jumped onto I-75 and increased speed to approximately 100 miles an hour.
The driver lost control of the vehicle when he attempted to exit at 7 Mile. The car rolled and one of the passengers was ejected. He was transported to St. John's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two other people in the Jeep ran from the scene. One is a 17-year-old from Detroit. He was captured in an abandoned house near Cardoni and Emery. His name has not been released.
The second suspect was able to get away. He is described only as an African American man in his 20s, who was wearing all black.
Police have confirmed that the Jeep was stolen in Madison Heights.
The Impala has not been located.
The deceased has not been identified nor the next of kin notified. The investigation is ongoing.
