Police took a driver into custody Monday night after the pickup truck he was driving struck a Chicago police squad car, causing the squad car to hit a third vehicle and landing two police officers in local hospitals, police said.
Just after 11 p.m., a pickup truck hit a squad car from behind as the squad car was stopped at a red light in the 5400 block of West Chicago Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The force of the crash caused the squad car to strike a nearby car, according to police.
Two police officers were taken to local hospitals after the crash. One was treated and released, and the other is expected to released soon, Alfaro said.
No other injuries were reported. Charges against the pickup truck driver are pending.
