East Feliciana Parish, LA : Julius Packnett, 35, and Adam McKey, 39, dead after a crash in East Feliciana Parish early Tuesday morning, May 24, 2016
Louisiana State Police said two people are dead after a crash in East Feliciana Parish early Tuesday morning.
The victims were identified as Julius Packnett, 35, and Adam McKey, 39, both of Centreville, MS.
Troopers reported the two-vehicle wreck happened on LA 19 north in Norwood, which is near the state line, shortly after midnight.
Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said the preliminary investigation showed Packnett was headed south on LA 19 in a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria when his car crossed the center line into the path of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by McKey that was headed north on LA 19.
Lee added the drivers were not wearing seat belts and the impact of the head-on collision caused the truck to flip and threw McKey out of it. According to Lee, both men were pronounced dead at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office.
Investigators said they don’t yet know if impairment was a factor in the crash, but blood samples were taken from the drivers and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. It is standard procedure for toxicology samples to be taken whenever there is a deadly crash on Louisiana highways.
They added the crash shut down the highway, but it reopened around 4:30 a.m.
The investigation into this wreck is ongoing.
