Davis, CA : CHP investigates fatal freeway crash near Mace Boulevard on Monday, February 13th 2017
A Fairfield woman died Monday morning when her vehicle crashed into a tree on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Mace Boulevard exit.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic information website, the crash occurred at about 10:15 a.m. after 46-year-old Valerie Jones apparently lost control of the Nissan sedan, struck the center divider, then veered across the freeway and hit the tree.
Multiple witnesses told the CHP that the motorist had been driving recklessly just before the collision, traveling close to 100 mph and passing other cars on the right-hand shoulder.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash, including the possible role of alcohol or drugs, remains under investigation, CHP Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said.
