Red Valley, AZ : Six students injured after a Farmington Municipal School District bus crashed near Red Valley on on Monday afternoon, May 4, 2015

A Farmington Municipal Schools bus carrying fourth and fifth-grade students from Bluffview Elementary and Apache Elementary was involved in a rollover crash near Red Valley, Arizona Monday afternoon.

20 students were transported by ambulance to the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington and Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiporck, according to the Director of Operations for Farmington Municipal Schools Frank Stimac.

Navajo police said seven of the students were injured.

Stimac said that most of the students suffered minor injuries - bumps and bruises - and said that there were no serious injuries.

Parents picked up their kids at the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, according to Stimac. He said only two students were sent to Northern Navajo Medical Center, and those students' parents were informed.

A second bus, which did not roll over, took more students to the San Juan Regional Medical Center as a precaution. The second bus did not appear to be involved in the crash.

The Farmington School District Superintendent told KOB the students were returning from a field trip to Canyon de Chelle when the crash occurred around 4:15 p.m.

33 students and two adults were on the bus that turned over, according to Navajo police.

A news release from Navajo police say the bus was on a Bureau of Indian Affairs route (Route 13), that may be restricted for school bus access.

Navajo police said the driver reported the bus's brakes went out while it was going down the mountain and that he lost control. The driver apparently over-corrected, which caused the bus to roll onto its side.

Navajo police will conduct the investigation into the crash
