Sacramento, CA : Big rig crash and fatal accident on Tuesday, June 6, 2017
An accident on Interstate 880 in San Leandro killed a motorcyclist and closed all northbound lanes of the highway for more than a half hour Tuesday afternoon, backing up traffic for miles, officials said.
All lanes were opened at 6:14 p.m., but not before the southbound traffic situation worsened on 880 when a big rig got into an accident with four cars on the Hayward stretch of the highway just after 6 p.m., with one of the cars, a Toyota sedan, split in half by the accident, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Three lanes were closed at 6:08 p.m. The five-vehicle crash backed up traffic through San Lorenzo and caused delays of up to an hour, early CHP reports said.
The crash is near the site where another big-rig crashed last week, spilling acid on the road and requiring a response from hazmat teams.
The motorcycle accident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. just north of Davis Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
