Alcoa, TN : Alcoa police officer seriously injured when an SUV crashed into his parked vehicle on Thursday October 15 2015

An Alcoa police officer was seriously injured when an SUV crashed into his parked vehicle.
According to the crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Cory Phillips was standing beside his SUV on Hinkle Estates Drive when the Ford Escape driven by Amber Headrick, 26, of Seymour, rear-ended his vehicle. Headrick's vehicle flipped and landed on its roof. Phillips was thrown into the air by the impact and landed on the pavement. He suffered a fractured skull and will likely be hospitalized for several weeks. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Phillips' wife, who was pregnant, was on the other side of the SUV, reaching in to unbuckle their 2-year-old son from his carseat when they were hit. She was also hurt but has been released from the hospital. Their son was not injured.
Alcoa Police Captain David Carswell said Phillips had been a patrol officer with the department for about three weeks. Before that, he worked for the Blount County Sheriff's office for eight years.
He’s just a really quiet guy, really quiet type personality, but as far as work ethic, he’s a go-to guy, goes about law enforcement with compassion," Carswell said. "It’s shocking to everybody, to know Cory and his type of personality, he would have been the first person to respond to this kind of accident. It has affected his whole family.”
Headrick and her passenger were also injured in the accident. She was charged with violating the due care law.
