MOSSVILLE, IL : Two-vehicle wreck kills one motorist in the 19000 block of North Old Galena Road on Thursday, 27th February, 2020

A two-vehicle wreck killed a motorist Thursday morning south of Mossville.

The “near-head-on” collision occurred in the 19000 block of North Old Galena Road, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

One of the drivers died in the crash, while the other was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, Harwood said.

Harwood said the man who died, a person in his late 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:50 a.m. and likely died instantly. His name was being withheld pending the notification of the family, the coroner said. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, he said.

The name of the other driver hasn’t been released either.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
