Silver Springs, FL : ATV driver killed after striking tree in Marion on Sunday night, February 19, 2017

A 61-year-old man was killed Sunday night after his four-wheel ATV struck a tree, troopers said.

Just before 6 p.m., John Charles McCormick, of Silver Springs was riding his 2016 ATV northbound on SE 133rd Avenue Road just north of County Road 314 in Silver Springs, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

McCormick's vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the east shoulder, striking a standing tree.

McCormick, who was not wearing a helmet, troopers said, was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.
