A student was taken to a hospital with minor injuries Thursday morning after a truck ran a Hanover Area School District bus off Interstate 81, according to state troopers.
A bus carrying 22 students and five adult chaperones had been traveling south near mile 159 at approximately 9:50 a.m. when a UPS freight truck merged into the left lane and hit it, police said. The driver, Garfield Beamon, of New Windsor, New York, failed to observe the bus before merging and made an unsafe lane change, police said.The bus ran off the left shoulder and crashed into a guardrail, police said. The bus was disabled and had to be towed from the scene, while the truck sustained only minor damage.
The injured student was taken to a local hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries, police said.
It was not immediately clear if charges were pending.
