Charleston, South Carolina
The Charleston County coroner has identified the man deputies say crashed his car after speeding from a checkpoint being conducted in Berkeley County.
William Daron Glover-Luck, 29, of Summerville, died in the crash of blunt trauma, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Sara Senn.
Deputies responded shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday to the crash scene at Highway 78 near Von Oshen Road, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
Watson said the driver of a tan Chevrolet Impala fled from a checkpoint being conducted by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
Berkeley County deputies were chasing the vehicle at a high rate of speed towards Summerville on Highway 78 when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Rusty's Driving School, crashing into another vehicle, then leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree, Watson said.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, Watson said.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Watson said.
Charleston County deputies are investigating the accident since the crash took place in Charleston County. The Charleston County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the driver once family is notified.
