Auburn, ME : One dead, one injured in a crash near Auburn turnpike exit early Friday morning, February 24, 2017
Police are investigating an early morning collision that left a Turner woman dead and sent her passenger to the hospital.
Auburn police said James Bannister, 57, of Turner was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck south on Washington Street, at the intersection with Exit 75, when he collided with Crystal Hewitt's 1999 Oldsmobile at 1:39 a.m. Friday.
Hewitt, 48, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center and died a short time later, according to police. Her passenger, Janae Ulicki, 22, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, was treated at the hospital and released.
Bannister was treated at the scene for injuries not considered life threatening.
Auburn police shut down a section of Washington Street for several hours before reopening around 7 a.m. Lewiston police are helping Auburn reconstruct the accident scene.
Auburn police said early indications were that alcohol was not a factor in the wreck.
