Manatee County, FL : Wheelchair pedestrian killed in Manatee traffic accident early Saturday morning, September 10, 2016

A pedestrian has died in a traffic accident in Manatee County early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to reports, a Kia Optima driven by Juana Orozco, 21, of Bradenton was traveling west on 301 Boulevard East, east of 9th Street East around 2 a.m. Apparently, an unidentified 62-year-old male pedestrian in a wheelchair was in the westbound traffic lane of 301 Boulevard. Orozco failed to see the man in the wheelchair and struck him with the left front of her car.

The man sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident. Neither Orozco nor two passengers in her car, Victor Cabanas, 23, and Gabriel Cabanas, 2, both of Bradenton, sustained injuries in the accident.

The FHP says alcohol was not involved on the driver’s part in the accident.

The name of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
