Milwaukee, WI : 22-year-old man and his 17-year-old sister in crash during street race in Milwaukee's northwest side on Monday, February 22, 2016

A 22-year-old man and his 17-year-old sister are dead after the man crashed his car into a tree on Milwaukee's northwest side during what police say was a street race.

The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 7000 block of N. 91st St., where a Pontiac Bonneville was northbound racing a black Camaro. The Pontiac driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and hit a tree, police said.

The Milwaukee County medical examiner's office identified the driver as Lewon I.S. Pickens and his passenger as his sister, Charre Sutton.

Their mother said Sutton had just finished work at Walgreens on W. Good Hope Road and N. 91st St. Her brother picked her up intending to take her home, the mother said.

Investigators estimated that the car was traveling north on N. 91st St. at about 75 mph when it went sideways and hit the tree with such force that the front of the car ripped in half, the medical examiner's report says.

Both victims were wearing seat belts.

No additional information about the second vehicle has been released.
