Three people were killed and another person was injured in a two-vehicle crash west of Tabor Thursday afternoon.
According to a press release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2003 Ford Taurus was traveling east in the westbound lane on South Dakota Highway 50. It collided head-on with a 1995 Mercury Villager which was traveling west in the appropriate lane. The incident occurred at 3:43 p.m. Thursday one mile west of Tabor near mile marker 366.
Both drivers and the front seat passenger of the Mercury Villager died. The driver of the Taurus was a 70-year-old female. The driver of the Mercury was a 48-year-old male and the Mercury’s front-seat passenger was a 12-year-old female. The second passenger in the Mercury Villager, a 14-year-old female, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.
Names are not being released pending notification of family members.
At least two of the four persons involved were not wearing seatbelts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies at the scene were the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office, Tyndall and Tabor EMS and Tabor Fire Department.
