YAKIMA, WA : Man killed in pedestrian-semi accident on Yakima's East Nob Hill Boulevard on Wednesday, 7th September 2016

A 49-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a semitruck Wednesday evening, Yakima police report.

Officers were called at 6:40 p.m. for a pedestrian-truck accident at the corner of South 18th Street and East Nob Hill Boulevard. Police say the man, whose identity will not be released until his family is notified, was attempting to cross Nob Hill Boulevard when the westbound truck hit him.

The truck was in the turning lane to head south on 18th Street when the pedestrian was hit, according to a police department news release.

Authorities say the truck driver was not under the influence of intoxicants and will not be cited. Police believe that the pedestrian, who was not in the crosswalk, was intoxicated, the release said.

The accident is under investigation.
