Bluffton,SC : Bluffton community mourns loss of two teens killed in wreck on may, Monday 15th 2017
The Bluffton Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that took the life of two Bluffton High School students Monday night.
The wreck happened around 10:30 p.m. Bluffton officials say the crash involved one vehicle. The driver, 17-year-old Noah Fedele, and the passenger, 19-year-old Samuel Bougus, were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Any crash like this, when you have two teenagers, it’s a tragedy," said Joy Nelson, Bluffton Police. "So we wanna make sure that we do this investigation correctly to figure out what happened.”
Fedele was traveling westbound on Bluffton Parkway near Pinecrest Drive when he lost control and flipped his vehicle. Both victims are former Bluffton High School students. Bougus graduated last year, and Fedele transferred out of the district last November. High school friends have placed flowers by the road. As you can imagine, this is incredibly emotional and difficult for the people who knew them.
“It’s difficult," said Chief John Thompson, Fire Chief, Bluffton Fire District. "Especially in a community like Bluffton. We’re really close-knit. And it’s kind of like everybody feels that pain when something like that happens.”
The school's principal released the following statement Tuesday:
Bobcat Nation is greatly saddened by the loss of two former students. Noah and Sam were well-known to many of our students and staff, and our heart-felt thoughts and prayers go out to their families and friends.
All lanes in both directions were closed for hours overnight as police investigated the scene. The westbound reopened around 3 a.m. Tuesday, but the Bluffton Police Department kept the eastbound lanes closed due to a sinkhole at Pinecrest Drive.
