Cocoa,FL : Cocoa man dies Friday in Polk City crash on January, Friday 26th 2018
One Cocoa man is dead and a woman was critically injured followed a one-car accident that occurred on Friday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Thaddeus Lisbon, 19, died at the scene and Jaimee Elder, 21, of Spring Hill, was listed in critical condition at Lakeland Health Regional Medical Center after a blue 1992 Honda Accord, being driven by Rosetta Presley, 25, left the roadway and struck a tree off of Deen Still Road. Since the accident, Elder has been upgraded from critical to serious and is expected to make a full recovery.
Both were riding in the back seat and not wearing seat belts, the Sheriff’s Office said. Presley and front passenger, Brunsrick Parris Jr., 24, of Cocoa, were taken to LHRMC to be treated for minor injuries and have since been released, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They both were wearing seat belts.
The incident occurred about 4 p.m. about 1½ miles east of Commonwealth Avenue. Deputies said when Presley’s right-side tires left the roadway, Presley overcorrected, causing the car to leave the road and strike the tree on the passenger side where Lisbon was sitting.
Presley, of Cocoa, told deputies that she moved to the right after a car passed her on the left, which caused her to lose control. The speed limit in the area, the Sheriff’s Office said, is 55 mph. Speed is thought to be a factor, but the investigation is ongoing.
