HUDSON, OH : Driver fleeing Ohio Turnpike crash shot to death by officer on Sunday, December 4th, 2016

Police say a driver who ran from a crash on the Ohio Turnpike was fatally shot when an officer tracked him down in a wooded area and a struggle ensued.

The male driver was traveling at a fast speed when he sideswiped another vehicle and his car flipped Sunday afternoon on the turnpike north of Akron in Summit County, where the road is also designated as Interstate 80, police in Hudson said.

An officer searching for the fleeing suspect found him in a wooded area and fired shots during a struggle, police said.

The identities of the deceased driver and the officer weren’t immediately released.

Police haven’t shared other details of the incident, including whether the fleeing driver was armed.

Authorities said the officer was taken to a hospital as a precaution but was not injured.
