LONGMEADOW, MA : A rollover crash onto the median of Interstate 91 on Friday, September 1, 2017
Longmeadow, Massachusetts
A rollover crash onto the median of Interstate 91 just north of the Connecticut state line forced the closure of lanes on both sides of the highway.
Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Michael Ofcarcik, at the Springfield barracks, said a car traveling in the southbound lane crashed into guardrails and rolled over into the median between the travel lanes at the 2.8 miles marker.
No one was injured in the late afternoon crash. But the location of the wreckage forced the closure of the left lanes on both the northbound and southbound sides of the highway, backing traffic up in both directions. The tie up extended all the way into downtown Springfield at one point and south well into Connecticut.
Ofcarcik said the wrecked car was removed close to 5 p.m., but state Department of Transportation inspectors are responding to the scene to determine the extent of damage to guardrails. Access to the left lane of the southbound side of the highway may be restricted for some time into the evening.
