A 54-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver after he fell off his bike late Sunday, troopers said.

At about 9:45 p.m., an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound in the left lane on Courtenay Parkway, near Spruce Avenue in Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Meanwhile, a Merritt Island man had fallen off his bicycle as he tried to cross Courtenay from the west to the east. As he got up and tried to get back on his bike, the unknown vehicle struck him and drove off, FHP said.

Witnesses told troopers that the unknown vehicle could be a type of pickup truck.
