Federal Way ,WA : Motorcycle officer suffers serious leg injury in crash on Tuesday afternoon , July 28th 2015

- A Federal Way police motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a Tuesday afternoon crash.

The crash happened in the 34400 block of 16th Ave. S. just before 4 p.m. The officer was heading south on 16th when he collided with a car traveling east on 344th Street, according to Cathy Schrock with Federal Way Police.

"At this point we don't know the details of what happened or why the collision occurred. We don't know who had the right-of-way," Schrock said.

The officer was taken to a Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of a serious leg injury, but was expected to survive, Schrock said. There's no word if the other driver was hurt.

Schrock added that as far as they know, the officer was not responding to a call. They haven't released his name, only to say he's a nine-year veteran of their traffic enforcement division.

16th Avenue South is closed in both directions near the crash site and is expected to remain so into the late evening for the investigation. The investigation has been turned over to the Washington State Patrol.
