An 84-year-old Twain Harte woman died after a car accident Friday on Highway 108 near Twain Harte.

Celia Joy Janka died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. She suffered severe bodily injuries from a car accident about 4:25 p.m. Friday near the upper Twain Harte entrance, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Janka’s husband, Kazimierz Janka, 90, also of Twain Harte, was driving a 2004 Audi A4 east on Highway 108.

He attempted to make a left turn onto Twain Harte Drive East at a slow speed a short distance in front of a 2004 Chevy Suburban driven by Lisa D. Sandberg, 44, of Pinecrest, the report said.

Sandberg, heading west at about 45 mph, applied her brakes but was unable to stop before colliding with the Audi’s right passenger-side, CHP said.

Celia Janka was flown to Memorial Medical Center for treatment, but died Saturday because of her injuries. Kazimierz Janka received a laceration to his right hand, CHP said.
