COSMOS, MN : Three injured in crash northeast of Cosmos on Wednesday, 26th October 2016
Two vehicles collided in a rural intersection northeast of Cosmos Wednesday afternoon, sending both drivers and a passenger to Meeker Memorial Hospital.
The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is crediting seatbelts for saving their lives.
Dee Smith, 47, Dimitri Lund, 20, and Levi Lund, 17, all of Rural Cosmos, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the 3:30 p.m. crash.
According to the Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Smith had been driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan north on Meeker County Road 10 while Dimitri Lund drove a 1994 Ford Ranger west on 160th Street with Levi Lund as a passenger.
Dimitri Lund failed to yield at the intersection with County Road 10 and was struck by Smith's Caravan, according to the Sheriff's Office. His Ranger rolled several times.
The Meeker County Sheriff's Office, Cosmos Fire Department and Ambulance, Gold Cross Ambulance and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene.
Both vehicles were totaled.
"All three individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, which deputies determined was a significant factor in saving the lives of these individuals," Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze wrote in a news release.
