Molalla. OR : Bicyclist in critical condition after crash on Thursday morningJuly 10th 2014
A 44-year-old man was flown to the hospital in critical condition Thursday morning after his bicycle collided with a pickup on Oregon 211, east of Molalla.
The bicyclist, whose name was not released, was taken by Life Flight helicopter ambulance to OHSU Hospital.
Lt. Clint Shaver of the Molalla Fire District said the man was riding a bike west on Oregon 211 near South Vaughn Road at around 7:40 a.m. When a westbound 2005 Toyota pickup then tried to pass, the bicycle swerved into the pickup driven by Victor Maxfield, 32, of Molalla.
"The pickup driver couldn't swerve out of the way because on an on-coming dump truck" Shaver said.
Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police spokesman, said the bicyclist's name was being withheld until his family is notified. He said alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The highway's westbound lane remained closed for nearly an hour while emergency responders were on the scene.
Oregon State Police are investigating the crash.
