FREEPORT, ME : One person dies, one injured in crash on I-295 in Freeport on Saturday, January 14th 2017

A crash involving a tanker truck hauling milk and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 295 has claimed one life and injured one other motorist, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Saturday.

McCausland said it was not yet clear which vehicle the deceased person was in.

The tanker truck overturned in the median, which reduced both north and southbound lanes to one lane each. Traffic was expected to be disrupted for rest of the day. Motorists are being advised to take either Route 1, Route 9 or the Maine Turnpike to avoid the crash site, he said.

The crash is in the southbound lane at mile 22½, near the Freeport exit, and was reported at about 10:15 am.

Maine State Police troopers are asking for any witnesses to the crash to call state police in Gray at 657-3030.
