Akron, OH : Middlebury Academy bus driver run over while rescuing 10-year-old girl in Akron on Tuesday morning, September 16, 2014

Police are investigating a school bus accident that killed a bus driver. The woman has been identified as Laura Zborowski, 51, of Akron. The accident happened Tuesday morning at Middlebury Academy on Kent Drive. It’s a K-8 charter school in Akron. The bus was parked outside of the school just before classes started. Lt. Rick Edwards with the Akron Police Department said Zborowski was doing evacuation drills with about 38 students. After one successful drill using a side door, the students boarded the bus again to practice exiting the back of the bus. Edwards said as the last student was getting off the bus, the bus started to roll. Zborowski threw the child to safety but there was no time to get out of the way. The bus rolled over the driver and dragged her halfway down a hill. “And she did what she does every day, and that’s to protect these children,” said Edwards.
