Southaven, MS : Tunica man dies in Southaven multi-car crash on Tuesday, July 25, 2017
A man from Tunica was declared dead at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash in the middle of a busy Southaven intersection late Tuesday afternoon, a crash that may have been connected to a hit-and-run crash that took place a short time before that.
DeSoto County Coroner Jeff Pounders Tuesday evening identified the fatality as 56-year-old Percy Willis of Tunica, who Pounders said died after the Lexus he was in was “T-boned,” as Pounders referred to the crash at the Airways Blvd. and Goodman Road intersection in Southaven about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
“He died on impact,” Pounders said in referencing the victim.
Southaven Police were offering few details Tuesday evening, noting more facts on the active investigation may be released Wednesday.
However, information the police department did provide described the collision as a five-car crash.
Police stated there was a suspect involved from a hit-and-run crash that taken place a short time before the fatal crash at I-55 and Church Road.
The police information also stated that in addition to the fatality, three other people were hurt in the crash and were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven for treatment of minor injuries.
Police have not yet identified who the hit-and-run suspect was, or if Willis was the person being sought in connection with the hit-and-run accident before the fatal collision.
In addition to the Southaven Police Department’s involvement in the crash investigation, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department is also assisting, according to the news release.
