St. Charles, MO : Driver killed, passenger injured after a fatal crash in St. Charles County on Tuesday afternoon, December 6, 2016
One man was killed and another man was seriously injured when they were thrown out of a car that ran off a highway Tuesday afternoon in St. Charles County.
The man fatally injured is identified as Larry G. Witt, 67, from O'Fallon, Mo.
Jerold C. Broeker, 56, of O'Fallon, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis with serious injuries.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said Witt was driving a 2004 Chrysler Sebring that crashed just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. The car was heading north on Highway 61 when it ran off the side of the road. The car hit an embankment and overturned south of Highway W, the patrol said.
Witt and Broeker, his passenger, were both thrown from the car. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said. Witt was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal crash was on a stretch of Highway 61 that has been in the news lately as residents and emergency responders push for cable barriers.
