ALEXANDER CITY, AL : Tallapoosa man killed after car hits sign, overturns; driver injured on Wednesday, January 11th 2017
A single-vehicle crash at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday has claimed the life of a Daviston man in northern Tallapoosa County.
Jimmy Lee Dugan, 28, was killed when the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero in which he was a passenger left the road, struck a sign and overturned. Dugan, who was not using a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Amy Clampitt, 30, of Dadeville, was taken to Columbus Medical Center with injuries. At the time of the crash, Clampitt was refusing to stop for law enforcement, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on Alabama 49 near Lester Road, approximately seven miles north of Dadeville.
Although circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, alcohol is believed to be a factor. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
