Columbia, MO : Two people died and another five injured in a multi-vehicle crash when two tractor-trailers collided on Interstate 70 in Callaway County on Tuesday morning, Oct 27, 2015

Two people died in a seven-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 in Callaway County near the Kingdom City Exit on Tuesday morning, Sgt. Scott White of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Five other people were taken to University Hospital, and their conditions are unknown, White said.

White said that based on a preliminary investigation, seven vehicles were involved in the crash: three semitrailers, three pickup trucks and one SUV.

He said that the Highway Patrol believes that "one or more" vehicles were heading west when they crossed over the median and into the eastbound lanes. After hours of cleanup, the eastbound lanes of I -70 were reopened as of 4:45 p.m., White said.

"Once in the eastbound lane there were a series of collisions," White said. “Both lanes are open, but there’s still debris on the shoulders with crews cleaning it up."

No other information on the identities of the victims was available.
