One person was killed in an accident involving a semitrailer in Spanish Fork early Saturday morning.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, at about 3:45 a.m. a semitrailer was driving southbound on Interstate 15 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 when a small white passenger car and a dark-colored 2001 GMC Sierra pickup passed the
semitrailer on the left at a high speed.
The driver of the white car then drove into the lane that the semitrailer was in, causing the semi driver to swerve and leave the road on the right shoulder, destroying about 100 feet of guardrail alongside the road.
The semi then came back onto the road and struck the pickup.
The passenger of the pickup, identified as 21-year-old Irineo Hernandez Ambriz, of Provo, died from injuries sustained in the wreck. The driver of the semitrailer and the driver of the pickup were both transported to the hospital with non-life-
threatening injuries.
According to UHP officials, the white vehicle did not stop and has not been located.
Southbound I-15 lanes were all closed for more than five hours as officials investigated the crash. Northbound lanes of I-15 were closed Saturday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m. when another semitrailer rolled.
