Mansfield, OH : One person dead, another injured in a three-car crash on Interstate 71 in Mansfield on Saturday, February 14, 2015
The Ohio State Patrol is investigating a three-car crash on Interstate 71 in Mansfield that killed a man responding to a crash scene to take his family member home.
According to OSP, the crash happened Saturday around 9:30 p.m. near mile marker 177.
A Mansfield trooper was at the scene investigating a single-car crash when Edward Howard, 55, showed up to the scene to transport his family member home.
Howard parked his 2003 Ford Explorer at the scene of the crash behind the trooper's patrol car. He then stood at the right door of the SUV, authorities say.
Joseph Schramm, 33, of Mansfield, was driving northbound on I-71 in his 2015 GMC Sierra when he lost control and struck Howard's SUV and then the patrol car.
Howard was transported to Med-Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Schramm was transported to Ashland Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries. The trooper was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
