Ashuelot, N.H : Keene man charged after crashing his car into the post office in Ashuelot Sunday evening on June 8, 2014
A Keene man is accused of leading police on a chase and then crashing his car into the post office in Ashuelot Sunday evening.
Gage B. Gushlaw, 21, is charged with driving after revocation, conduct after an accident, disobeying an officer, reckless driving, aggravated driving while intoxicated, simple assault, speeding and a highway marking violation, for passing on a solid line.
At about 7:05 p.m., Winchester police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Keene Road in Winchester, according to a news release from Winchester Police Chief Gary A. Phillips.
Police allege Gushlaw had been in a dispute with his girlfriend, Erin Morse, 24, of Keene, near a parked vehicle.
Police were told at the scene that a Winchester resident had taken Morse from the area, and that Gushlaw drove off behind the vehicle transporting Morse.
While officers were on Keene Road, Gushlaw sped by them toward downtown Winchester, Phillips wrote. Winchester police attempted to chase Gunshlaw, but lost sight of the car he was driving, according to the release.
A Hinsdale officer had responded to the area to assist Winchester police when he observed Gunshlaw speeding west on Route 119, Phillips wrote.
Thereafter, police say, Gushlaw lost control of his vehicle, causing him to cross Route 119, strike a fence and continue into the side of the post office at 8 Ashuelot Main Street.
The car, a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass, came to rest halfway outside the far wall of the post office, Phillips wrote.
Police arrested Gushlaw after a brief foot chase, according to the news release.
Officers from Chesterfield, Hinsdale, Swanzey, Walpole, as well as N.H. State Police troopers, assisted Winchester police. Diluzio Ambulance Service, the Winchester Fire Department and Federal Postal Investigator's Office were also on scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
Judge Edward J. Burke kept Gushlaw's bail at $10,000.
