Gastonia, NC : Officer injured in wreck on interstate on Monday, 23rd April 2018

A Gastonia Police officer was hospitalized after being struck on Interstate 85 on Monday.

Police were investigating the wreck after it was called in at 12:29 p.m., on the northbound lanes of I-85 near Exit 21.

The officer, Brad Bumgardner, was outside of his patrol car attending to another wreck in the emergency lane when he and his car were struck by another vehicle, according to agency spokeswoman Donna Lahser.

Bumgardner was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center to treat his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate the wreck.
