Westville, IN : Nine people injured in two-car crash in LaPorte County on Sunday evening, May 8, 2016
Nine people were either seriously or critically injured in a two-car collision at the intersection of U.S. 421 and U.S. 6, just south of Westville Sunday evening. Injury details were not available Sunday night.
A six-year-old was among those hurt in the crash which occurred around 5:30 p.m. EST, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department. The child was flown from the crash scene to the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago.
An adult male, who was ejected from one of the vehicles, was taken to Porter Hospital and later flown to Loyola Hospital in Chicago. The seven other crash victims were taken to LaPorte Hospital or St. Anthony's Hospital in Michigan City.
Citing the preliminary investigation, police say a white Chevrolet mini-van traveling west on U.S. 6 pulled in front of a southbound Brown Buick SUV traveling on U.S. 421. Four people, including the six-year-old and the adult male who was ejected, were in the Chevrolet. Five people were in the Buick.
Police closed the intersection until about 7 p.m. EST.
