Lemoore, CA : 1 person dead, 4 injured in crash near Lemoore on Monday morning, February 23, 2015
A crash at the intersection of Kansas and 18th avenues near Lemoore Monday morning resulted in the death of a 26-year-old San Simeon man, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP said the unidentified man was driving his 2008 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on 18th Avenue around 3:43 a.m. at an unknown rate of speed. In the car with him was 29-year-old Armando Valencia, of San Simeon.
At that same time, Jose Luis Martinez, 33, of Madera, was heading eastbound on Kansas Avenue, just west of 18th Avenue at 60 mph.
CHP said the driver of the Malibu failed to yield at the posted stop sign at the intersection of 18th and Kansas avenues. As a result, the car entered into the eastbound lane of traffic on Kansas Avenue — directly into the path of Martinez’s 1995 Honda Civic.
A statement said Martinez was unable to move out of the Malibu’s path and ultimately crashed into the right passenger side door of the car.
The 26-year-old driver was taken to Adventist Health Medical Center in Hanford where he later died from his injuries. Valencia was also taken to the Hanford hospital for what CHP said were minor injuries.
The two passengers in the Honda Civic, 34-year-old Saul Santos and 30-year-old Renee Cruz, both of Madera, were taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for major injuries. Martinez sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
